Requirements

Education
  • Diploma, Bachelor of Science (BSc)
  • Essential three-year “Diploma in Laboratory Technology” from any government recognized institute with Valid registration.
  • 4-year BSc in Laboratory Technology as desirable
Additional Requirements

Experience

  • Essential minimum 2 years of working experience as Laboratory Technician.
  • Preferred experience in INGO/NGOs.

Knowledge

  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and Internet).

Language

  • Bangla essential and English and Chitagonian desirable.

Responsibilities & Context

  • According to medical prescription, preparing and performing Laboratory exams/tests with appropriate techniques by following MSF Protocols and procedures. This function includes among others:
  • Taking blood, vaginal and urethral samples.
  • Centrifuging blood and urine samples.
  • Performing laboratory exams (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology or parasitological, according to context of the mission).
  • Ensuring proper reporting and registration of the sample results in order to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Taking care, manage and organize efficiently the laboratory material/equipment:
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
  • Applying hygiene and safety protocols, doing daily cleaning /maintenance, sterilization, washing general glassware after procedures are done.
  • Ensuring proper sample waste disposal according to MSF protocols and highest safety standards.
  • Supplying orders, do stock, storage conditions follow-up, keep inventory.
  • Keeping organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done.
  • Reporting all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.
  • Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device and List item.

Context Specific Accountabilities

1. Laboratory Testing and Procedures

  • Perform laboratory tests,(RDT, Haematology test, POC testing by I stat, microscopy) including Viral. Load testing for Hepatitis C patients using the GeneXpert Machine, in accordance with MSF guidelines.
  • Conduct Biochemistry tests as required by the project.
  • Handle patients with care and respect during sample collection.
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent contamination and cross-infection.
  • Performing quality control tests according to MSF protocols Daily,weekly & Monthly(IQC ,EQC)

2. Conduct blood bank activities (donor screening, blood donor arrangement etc) according to MSF protocol

3. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain and update laboratory registers and files, ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.
  • Actively participate in reporting laboratory activities, including maintaining files, forms, patient cards, statistics, and reports.
  • Ensure proper handover of duties with colleagues to maintain continuity of work.

4. Training and Collaboration

  • Train nurses and the Hepatitis C team on Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs), venous blood collection, and proper transport of blood samples for PCR from collection sites.
  • Work closely with the Hepatitis C medical team (Medical Doctors, Nurses, and Medical Assistants), Lab techs from other OCs, Lab supervisor/manager and the Hepatitis C Coordinator, fostering effective communication and teamwork.

5. Stock and Resource Management

  • Monitor and manage stock levels of tests and stationery, ensuring orders are organized and controlled.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to maintain stock levels and follow contingency plans to prevent shortages.
  • Immediately report stock shortages, losses, suspected theft, or machine damage to the line manager.

6. Workstation and Safety

  • Keep the workstation clean, organized, and in compliance with established routines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of laboratory results, following protocols to protect patient privacy.

7. Patient Care

  • Address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Escalate patient complaints or issues to the supervisor as needed.
  • Possibility to be roster duty (day & night ) according to the needs of the Clinic.

Compensation & Other Benefits

Contract and Benefit

Temporary Contract (18 Months). Salary according to level 05 (five) of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 56000 Gross). Salary is not negotiable. Income tax deduction from salary based on current income tax rule. 2 annual leave days per month worked. Medical insurance for employee and direct dependents based on Health Care Policy- Locally Recruited Staff.

Others

There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
